Organic Certification

Introduction

Quality Welsh Food Certification Ltd (QWFC) is a certification body, set up by the agricultural co-operative movement in Wales to monitor farms and the food supply chain against standards.

We are  recognised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) (Registered No 146) and by Defra as an Organic Control Body (GB-ORG-13).

We provide a service dedicated to Welsh farms, Welsh Farmers and Welsh Food Processors focusing on their particular needs and requirements.

Welsh Organic Certification

In order to convert to organic production you will need to plan carefully.  The process need not be onerous and we will endeavour to take any applicant through the certification process as efficiently as possible with the minimum of fuss.  However, some may need to make more changes than others and re-appraise their approach and methods.

Before you begin the conversion from non-organic to organic production, you might want to obtain advice from an advisor who specialises in organic production.  For farmers and growers Farming Connect, telephone 08456 000813, https://businesswales.gov.wales/farmingconnect/ or for food processors, Cywain, telephone 01745 770036, https://menterabusnes.co.uk/en/cywain can provide help and their services include free business and technical advice, training and access to discussion groups.

In order to be recognised as an organic farmer or processor and market your product as organic, you will need to register with an Defra officially recognised Control Body such as Quality Welsh Food Certification Ltd.  Anyone selling products as organic that his not certified by QWFC or another Organic Control Body is breaking the law and could be liable for prosecution.
